The role
A tier-one automotive supplier in the Black Country is bringing automation engineering in-house after several years of relying on integrators. This is the second hire into that team and the one that will carry most of the technical delivery.
You would work across the full lifecycle of a cell: specification and concept, PLC and HMI programming, robot integration, commissioning on the line, and the handover documentation that makes it maintainable. Projects range from single-station poka-yoke fixtures to full robotic assembly cells.
The site runs Siemens across most of the plant with some legacy Allen-Bradley, and Fanuc and ABB robots. Hybrid here means two days from home once you are through probation; commissioning weeks are on site by their nature.
What you will need
Three or more years in a controls or automation engineering role within manufacturing
Siemens TIA Portal programming to a confident, independent standard
Experience integrating and programming industrial robots, Fanuc or ABB preferred
HMI and SCADA development experience, WinCC or similar
Able to read electrical schematics and work safely on live panels with the appropriate training
Practical commissioning experience, including fault finding under production pressure
A degree or HNC in electrical, electronic or control engineering, or equivalent time served
What is on offer
Salary of £45,000 to £52,000 depending on experience
Two days a week from home after probation
Annual bonus scheme linked to plant performance
Company pension at 5% employer contribution
25 days holiday plus bank holidays
Funded Siemens and robot manufacturer certification
