The role
Our client is an established precision subcontract machinist supplying aerospace and medical device customers from a single site in Trafford Park. They run a mixed fleet of Mazak and DMG Mori machining centres and have recently invested in two new 5-axis cells, which is what has created this role.
You would take ownership of programming across the 5-axis section, working from customer models through to proven, optimised toolpaths. The bigger part of the job is leading the shift to offline programming and simulation, which the business has committed to but has not had the internal expertise to drive. You would be the person who makes that happen.
This is a hands-on role reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, with two programmers and a strong setting team around you. The site runs a two-shift pattern; this position is days.
What you will need
Five or more years programming 5-axis machining centres in a subcontract or low-volume, high-mix environment
Strong CAM experience, ideally Mastercam or hyperMILL, with genuine offline simulation exposure
Confident reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings and GD&T
Practical knowledge of cutting tool selection and speeds and feeds optimisation for aerospace alloys
Experience machining titanium, Inconel or similar difficult materials
Comfortable proving out first-off components at the machine alongside setters
Awareness of AS9100 requirements and the documentation that goes with them
What is on offer
Salary of £48,000 to £56,000 depending on experience
Days-only shift pattern, 39 hours across a four and a half day week
