Manchester remains the strongest technical hiring market outside London, and the one we know best. The city’s advanced manufacturing base has held up through two difficult years, and demand for CNC programmers, controls engineers and quality specialists has stayed consistent even where volume hiring slowed.

Salaries in the region moved roughly 4% over the last twelve months, with the sharpest movement in automation and controls, where a shortage of PLC-literate engineers continues to push offers above advertised bands. Hybrid working is now standard for design and process roles and largely absent from production, which is worth knowing before a search begins.
