/For employers
Four candidates, not forty.
We map the market before we approach anyone, screen technically rather than by keyword, and turn down briefs we do not think we can fill. Most searches close inside seven weeks.

/Services
Four ways we work, and when each one suits
Contingency
You pay only on placement. Best for roles where the market is deep enough that speed matters more than exclusivity, and where you are comfortable running more than one agency.
Retained search
A committed fee in stages, an exclusive brief, and a full market map delivered whether or not you hire from it. Right for leadership appointments and any role where the pool is under fifty people.
Contract and interim
Day-rate placements with compliant payroll, IR35 determinations handled, and a contractor care process that keeps people on site. Typically used for project work and cover.
Embedded hiring
One of our consultants works as part of your talent team for a fixed term, on a monthly fee rather than per placement. Suits a funded scale-up hiring ten or more into one function.
/How we work
What actually happens after you brief us
Six stages. If one of them is going badly you will hear it from us before you have to ask.
01
We rewrite the spec with you. Roughly a third of the requirements on a typical brief are aspirational and are filtering out people you would happily hire.
02
We build the full list of people who could do the job, then prioritise who is realistically movable. You see the map, not just the shortlist.
03
Direct approach, technical screening by a consultant who understands the work, and a written note on every candidate explaining why they are on the list.
04
Usually four people. If we only found two worth sending, you get two and an explanation.
05
We keep the process moving, flag when your timeline is losing you candidates, and prepare candidates properly for each stage.
06
We manage the negotiation, prepare for the counter-offer, and check in at week one, month three and month twelve.

Searches we have run
Halloway Precision
Engineering & Manufacturing
Eleven engineering hires in seven months for a subcontract machinist opening a second site, without pulling anyone off the existing line.
Challenge
Halloway Precision had won a long-term aerospace contract that required a second site in Stockport, operational within nine months. They needed eleven engineering and production hires, and the constraint was severe: they could not staff the new site by moving people off the existing one without putting the contract they already had at risk.
Their previous approach had been to advertise and wait. On a nine-month clock with a specialist skill set, that was not going to work.
Approach
We mapped the machining talent across a forty-mile radius before approaching anyone, identifying around 180 relevant engineers and prioritising the sixty who were realistically movable. Every approach was direct; nothing was advertised.
We ran the hires in two waves rather than eleven parallel searches. The first wave was the four senior appointments who would set the standard, and we deliberately delayed the volume hiring until those were in place so the seniors could be part of interviewing their own teams.
Every candidate was screened by a consultant who could hold a technical conversation, and we declined to send anyone we would not have hired ourselves.
Result
All eleven roles were filled in seven months, two months inside the deadline. The second site opened on schedule and the existing line was not destaffed.
Ten of the eleven were still in post at twelve months. The one who left did so for family relocation reasons and we replaced them at no additional fee.

Kestrel Payments
Technology & Data
Building a platform team from two to nine through a Series C, with an average time to offer of nineteen days.
Challenge
Kestrel Payments raised a Series C and needed to grow the platform team from two engineers to nine within two quarters. Two previous agency engagements had produced volume without quality: 140 CVs, four interviews, no hires.
The underlying problem was that nobody screening candidates understood the difference between someone who had used Kubernetes and someone who had run it.
Approach
We rewrote the role specifications with the engineering leads first, which took two sessions and removed about a third of the stated requirements. Several were aspirational rather than real and were filtering out good candidates.
All technical screening was done by a consultant with an engineering background, on a call rather than against a checklist. We committed to sending no more than four candidates per role and held to it.
We also restructured the interview loop with them, cutting it from five stages over four weeks to three over eight days, which turned out to matter more than anything else we did.
Result
Seven hires in five months, completing the team a month ahead of plan. Average time from first approach to signed offer was nineteen days.
Of 26 candidates submitted across the seven roles, 22 were taken to interview. All seven hires remained in post at the twelve-month mark.

Ardmore Biologics
Life Sciences
Staffing a validation team of fourteen for a Dublin biologics expansion, on site and inspection-ready to schedule.
Challenge
Ardmore Biologics was expanding biologics capacity at its Dublin site and needed a validation team of fourteen assembled within five months, spanning CQV engineers, protocol authors and a validation lead.
The Irish validation contract market was extremely tight and the site was competing against three other capacity projects in the greater Dublin area recruiting simultaneously for the same people.
Approach
We went beyond Dublin from the outset rather than exhausting the local market first, running parallel searches into the UK, Poland and Portugal with relocation support built into the offer from the beginning.
We recruited the validation lead first and involved them in every subsequent hire, which improved both selection and the acceptance rate materially.
Contractor onboarding, right to work and compliant payroll were handled entirely by our operations team, so the site’s quality function was not pulled into administration during a critical period.
Result
Fourteen roles filled in four and a half months. Nine were contract, five permanent, with four relocations from outside Ireland.
The qualification programme completed on schedule and the site passed its subsequent regulatory inspection without a validation-related observation.

Brightmoor Financial
Finance & Legal
Rebuilding a financial crime function after a regulatory finding, with a fully staffed team inside four months.
Challenge
Brightmoor Financial received a regulatory finding relating to transaction monitoring and needed to double its financial crime team from six to twelve, at pace and with a supervisor watching the remediation timetable.
They were hiring against an unfavourable narrative. Candidates who researched the firm found the finding, and several strong people declined at first approach because of it.
Approach
We addressed the finding directly in the first conversation with every candidate rather than letting them discover it later. Framed as a remediation programme with board sponsorship and budget, it became a reason to join rather than a reason to decline.
We prioritised the two senior appointments and gave them genuine input into the shape of the team beneath them, which we used openly as part of the pitch.
Every candidate was assessed on written analysis as well as interview, because the role output is written and interviews do not test that.
Result
All six roles filled in under four months, including two internal promotions we identified during the process and recommended rather than recruiting externally.
The remediation programme closed on time. Retention at eighteen months stands at 100%.

Lochran Energy
Energy & Renewables
Filling nine offshore wind engineering roles by building a transition pipeline from oil and gas and marine backgrounds.
Challenge
Lochran Energy needed nine engineers for a Scottish offshore wind project and had been told repeatedly that the experience simply was not available in the market. Two searches had already been abandoned.
The specifications required direct offshore wind project experience for every role. There were perhaps forty people in the UK who matched, most of them employed by direct competitors and none of them looking.
Approach
We proposed a different premise: recruit for transferable capability and fund the sector-specific knowledge. That required a genuine conversation with the engineering director about what was actually essential versus what was habit.
For every transition candidate we submitted a written mapping of what carried across, what did not, and what the first six months would realistically require. That document did more to build confidence than any interview.
We also worked with the client on a structured onboarding programme so that the argument we were making was actually supported once people arrived.
Result
Nine roles filled in six months. Six of the nine came from oil and gas, marine or heavy civils backgrounds rather than offshore wind.
At eighteen months, eight of the nine remain with the business, and two have been promoted into package management roles.

Verrall Distribution
Supply Chain & Logistics
Building a planning function from scratch and cutting a distributor's average time to shortlist from nine weeks to twelve days.
Challenge
Verrall Distribution was scaling faster than its processes allowed and running an eighty million pound business on spreadsheet-based planning. They needed to build a planning function of five people, none of which existed as a role before.
Because the roles were new, there was no internal reference point for what good looked like, and the first two attempts at hiring had produced strong administrators rather than planners.
Approach
We started by writing the job specifications with them from first principles, based on what the function needed to deliver rather than on titles copied from elsewhere. That alone changed the shape of three of the five roles.
We built a simple, practical assessment: a real anonymised data set and a forecasting problem. It took candidates ninety minutes and it separated people who plan from people who report almost immediately.
We ran the searches sequentially, starting with the S&OP manager, so that each subsequent hire could be assessed by someone who would work with them.
Result
Five roles filled over seven months. Average time from brief to shortlist fell from nine weeks on their previous engagements to twelve days with us.
Eighteen months on, forecast accuracy has improved from 61% to 84% and the business has taken £2.1 million out of working capital.

Rates and terms, in plain terms
Most agencies make you ask for this. Here is the shape of it, and we will put exact numbers in writing before you commit to anything.
Contingency fee
A percentage of first-year basic salary, payable on start date. The percentage varies by seniority and is agreed in writing before we begin.
Retained fee
Split across engagement, shortlist and placement. Exclusive for the duration, with a market map delivered whether or not you hire.
Rebate period
A sliding rebate if a placement leaves within the first twelve weeks, and a free replacement search inside six months.
Contract margin
A transparent margin on top of the contractor’s day rate, shown separately on every invoice. No hidden uplift.
Register a vacancy
This form is longer than a contact form on purpose. The more we know up front, the fewer wrong candidates you see. A consultant will come back to you within one working day.
Questions clients ask us
How long does a search usually take?
Nineteen days from brief to signed offer on average, and around seven weeks to a start date once notice is served. Leadership and cleared roles run longer, and we will tell you that at the briefing rather than at week six.
Will you work my role alongside three other agencies?
On contingency, yes, and we will price and prioritise accordingly. On retained, no. If a role is genuinely hard we will usually recommend retained, because a market map is worth more than three agencies sending the same four CVs.
What happens if the person leaves?
A sliding rebate inside the first twelve weeks and a free replacement search inside six months. In practice it has been used twice in the last two years.
Do you cover roles outside your six sectors?
No. We will say so and, where we can, refer you to a firm that does. Taking a brief we cannot fill well wastes more of your time than ours.
Can you handle contractors and payroll?
Yes. We run compliant contractor payroll with IR35 determinations, right to work checks and weekly invoicing. Our compliance lead handles that end of it directly.
What do you need from us to start?
A realistic band, a decision-maker who can move at interview stage, and thirty minutes to rewrite the spec properly. That third one saves the most time.
