We have joined the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and published our first voluntary gender pay gap report, which we are not entirely happy with.

Two pieces of company news, one straightforward and one less so.

REC membership

Brennan Hale is now a member of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation. Membership requires an audit against the REC Code of Professional Practice and a commitment to it going forward, covering candidate consent, data handling, contractor payment terms and how complaints are handled.

We had been operating to most of these standards already. Being audited against them by someone external is a different thing, and it surfaced two areas in our contractor onboarding that we have since changed.

Our first pay gap report

We employ 34 people, well below the threshold that obliges us to report a gender pay gap. We have published one anyway. Our mean gap is 11.4% in favour of men.

The cause is not equal pay; our consultants at the same grade earn within 2% of each other. It is distribution: our two most senior commercial roles and the majority of our longest-tenured consultants are men, and commission scales with tenure. That is a real gap with a real explanation, and the explanation is not an excuse.

We have set out what we intend to do about it in the full report, and we will publish the number again next year whether it has improved or not.
